Even today people consider whether it is better to buy a split AC or a window AC. Well, to be honest, it depends on what you want in your home. While most of us prefer split ACs as they complement the modern design of our home and consume less energy, many still consider window ACs to be the best option. So, what are the factors to consider before buying an AC? In this blog, we will guide you to buy the right type of AC based on some factors so that you can get the best out of your AC.

Window AC

These are wall-mounted and suitable for small rooms with windows. These are quite pocket-friendly and maintenance costs are also low. They usually come in a single unit, where one face is installed on the inside and the other is installed on the outside of the window.

Split AC

Split ACs are wall-mounted and typically used for larger rooms due to their high cooling capacity. These do not require windows to install and come with a condenser and compressor. The compressor is in the outdoor unit, and the evaporator is in the indoor unit, which cools the room.

Which AC is Best Window or Split?

With a brief introduction about both the ACs above, we will now compare these two ACs and tell which one would be a better option for those who are planning to buy one to face the hot summer days.

Design

Split AC comes in different colors and patterns which can change the entire look of your room. Window ACs, on the other hand, are limited to one color which is generally white.

Installing a split AC always requires the help of a professional and also incurs additional installation charges. Also, if you are living in an apartment, it is not always a good idea to install a split AC and they are also not portable. Window ACs are easy to install and don’t require any additional charges. Plus, they are portable, making them easy to carry from one place to another.

Cooling Power

Split ACs are generally designed for larger rooms as they can cool the room faster. Window ACs appear ideal and are compact for small rooms.

Price

Split AC will cost you almost twice as much as window AC. For instance, a 1-1.5 ton split AC will cost you between 20,000-25,700 INR, while a window AC will cost you between 18,000-29,000 INR. So, if you’re getting an AC for a small room, go for window ACs as they also don’t need extra installation charges. However, for a bigger space like a living room, a split AC would be better.

Power Consumption

Power consumption largely depends on the star rating. The higher the star rating, the more efficient your AC will be. A 5-star AC will consume less energy, about 10% less than a 4-star AC. There is a 10% difference in energy consumption with an increase in one star. So, if you’re getting an AC for a small room and regular use, then a 3-star 1.5 Ton Window AC should be perfect. However, if you’re getting one for a large space that runs for 15 hours a day, go for a 5-star split AC to save more energy.

Noise

When it comes to noise, split ACs make little to no noise, while window ACs can be quite noisy. Since window ACs work opposite to a window, they produce noise. Therefore, for office spaces or even for your modern home decor, split AC is an ideal choice.

Maintenance

Window ACs generally have low-maintenance electronic components that are quite easy to service as all the components are compactly designed. Split ACs, on the other hand, need servicing at regular intervals by an expert or professional. Moreover, when it comes to troubleshooting, split AC is far more important than window AC.

Space Occupation

The most noticeable difference between window AC and split AC lies in the space requirement. Window ACs usually require a large amount of space as the entire appliance is just one unit. This means you need to either designate a full window or make adjustments in the wall to accommodate the AC. However, in terms of split AC, 2 separate units can be mounted on either side of the same wall, giving you some degree of flexibility.

The Bottom Line

Well, both ACs are efficient when it comes to the best user experience. Of course, both have their advantages and disadvantages, based on which it depends on which one you should buy for your home. Also, the budget plays an important role here. If you have a low budget, go for a window AC. But if you want an AC that fits the modern look of your room, then a split AC should be your choice.
